Inspired by the Land   January - November 30

This innovative and dynamic multi-media exhibition draws together the voices of Western Canadian artists, poets, film makers, writers, photographers, and elders, whose work has been profoundly inspired by the land.  They include Artists/Elders, Richard Baschuck, Jean Sonmor, Sharon Butala, Trevor Harriot and Wes Fine Day. Using multi screen installations, paintings, SMART technology and traditionally prepared and dried plants, visitors will discover the mystical in the ordinary.  A feast for the senses, this exhibition will incorporate sounds, colour, light, touch and smells drawn from the natural environment.  Curated by Dean Bauche.

Main Salon of the Chapel Gallery

August 31 – October 31                            Titles Tell Tales : Crystal Howie

Within this new body of work Titles Tell Tales, Crystal Howie examines myths, old wives tales and folk lore through the creation of anthropomorphic and zoomorphic characters. Monsters, monstrosities, hybrids, half-humans, half-animals mingle; they love, work and argue. Co-inhabiting space contained to the picture plane the characters perform various activities, sometimes thwarting each other’s plans but also working together as a unit. The familial traits within the works are meditative dialogues upon the family dynamic. It is an exploration on difference and dissent, on parts and wholes, solidarities and separations.
